At One Point 290,000 Were Without Power, No 911 In Estes Valley
DENVER (CBS4) - Xcel Energy crews have been working hard to restore power knocked out by the spring blizzard.
According to Mark Stutz with Xcel Energy, at one point on Wednesday they had 290,000 sustained outages due to the storm. As of 9:30 p.m. about 51,500 were still in the dark.
Stutz said crews would be working until 11 p.m. Wednesday but some crews would still be working overnight. They plan to go out in full force Thursday at 7 a.m. with the help from crews coming in from Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Stutz said the bulk of the outages will be repaired by Thursday night, but they expect some still into Friday, especially as people return from spring break and find that their power is out and then report it.
The Estes Valley is experiencing major communications outages that includes outages for Internet, cellphone and some landline telephone service. Local 911 communications are also out of service. Platte River Power Authority estimates repairs could be completed by Thursday night or sometime on Friday.
