Helicopter Crashes On Western Slope With 2 Onboard

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Two people onboard a helicopter suffered injuries after the aircraft crashed Saturday morning. The Garfield County Sheriff's Office originally reported the helicopter belonged to Xcel Energy, but now says that is not correct.

Xcel Energy tells CBS4 the helicopter was contracted by them. The crew was inspecting power lines.

The crash happened near Rifle, Garfield County Sheriff's officials say.

Both people were taken to the Grand River Hospital for treatment, however it is not known the severity of their injuries.

The crash caused a fire which firefighters responded to and were able to contain.

It is not clear what caused the crash.
