Wyoming-To-California Lines For Wind Power Clear Hurdle

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A more than 700-mile-long power line project to export Wyoming wind power to California has cleared a significant regulatory hurdle.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has released an environmental study for the TransWest Express power line project and is accepting any protests against the project.

BLM spokeswoman Beverly Gorny said Friday it will be the region's first big, new transmission project in several decades.

The project is being developed by an affiliate of The Anschutz Corp., based in Denver. The power lines will originate in south-central Wyoming, where another Anschutz affiliate plans to build what will be one of the biggest wind farms in the country.

The power lines will cross northwestern Colorado, Utah and southern Nevada and carry enough electricity for up to 1 million homes.
