WTC Beam Finds Permanent Home With Poudre Fire Authority
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - A piece of history from the 9/11 terrorist attacks has found a new home in Colorado. A steel beam from the World Trade Center was donated to the Poudre Fire Authority in Fort Collins.
The 3,500 pound piece of steel was picked up in New York earlier this week where it began its journey to Poudre Fire Authority Station 4.
The 5-foot beam started its trek on Wednesday where police officers, state troopers and firefighters have escorted it constantly.
Four members of Poudre Fire Authority were chosen to escort the beam across the country, Bryan Hanson, Len Lindholm, Jim Salisbury, and Jim Durkin. They were part of a team that helped try to find victims at Ground Zero in the days after the attack.
The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund and New York Port Authority donated the beam. It's one of the last pieces of Ground Zero that will be given to fire departments across the country.
There was a ceremony when the beam arrived in Fort Collins on Saturday evening.
