World Cup Fever Grips Fans In Denver

DENVER (CBS4)- The USA is still alive in the World Cup despite losing to Germany. They advanced to Round 16 for the second consecutive time.

The game drew a lot of fans from around the world, including those in Colorado who took time out during the middle of a Thursday to watch the match.

"I am at work today, I'm working as I'm speaking right now," said one soccer fan.

There were hundreds of people crowded around a big screen set up in downtown Denver specifically to watch their favorite team play.

Many of them had beer before breakfast, "Beer before lunch, I had breakfast at 7 a.m."

The best seats were at a bus stop in the shade. Nearby a construction crew had a perfect vantage point to watch.

Many who turned out weren't big fans of soccer but wanted to cheer on the USA. They also plan to call in sick again for the next big match up on July 5.
