Work Resumes After Gas Lines Ruptured In Vail

VAIL, Colo. (CBS4) - The contractor that caused two dangerous natural gas-line leaks here resumed work Friday under Xcel Energy's supervision.

The first leak forced the evacuation of residents from their homes on Monday. The second occurred Wednesday at a hotel, where 900 guests were evacuated.

The company, Slick Underground, Inc., of Elbert, is laying about seven-and-a-half miles of fiber optics lines for a wireless project. It's a subcontractor of Aspen Wireless. Work on the project began last fall.

A project manager with the company blamed Xcel, telling CBS4 this week that the energy provider had improperly marked gas lines.

The town of Vail said Friday the contractor would need to adhere to strict guidelines to continue the work.
