Work On Evans Pedestrian Bridge Will Close I-25 Again On Monday

DENVER (CBS4) - Both lanes of Interstate 25 near Evans Avenue reopened Friday morning after crews started installing a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.

The bridge, though, is just a skeleton for now. Crews will shut down that section of the interstate again on Monday to continue work. CDOT said it will be complete next summer.

When the bridge is completed, it will link the Colorado light rail station to Cherry Street to the north. The bridge, CDOT says, will improve access to retailers, neighborhoods and the light rail station.

"For a long time, the city has been talking about, 'How do you better engage pedestrians, transit riders and others to really facilitate movement?' So this project actually has been on the books and talked about even since the days of T-REX, so we finally have the funds ready to move forward," CDOT spokeswoman Amy Ford said.
