Woodland Park Mayor Accused Of Sexual Assault
WOODLAND PARK, Colo. (CBS4) – The mayor of Woodland Park, west of Colorado Springs, is accused of sexually assaulting a child.
Police say the investigation started several weeks ago after a tip.
Woodland Park Mayor David Turley is facing at least once charge of sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
On Thursday Turley's home was searched and evidence was collected but police won't say what they took.
After questioning, Turley was arrested and the case was turned over to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
"The reason I did that is because I realized the suspect is our mayor and I wanted people from another police department to be looking at it to have a fair and objective process," said Woodland Park Police Department Chief Bob Larson.
Police will not say how Turley met his alleged victim, only that they believe there is only one.
Turley was elected in 2012 by the community he's called home for the last two decades.
"Seemed like really nice guy, always involved in the community and always asked me how things were going and really seemed to care about things, so I'm very surprised," said Turley's neighbor Brett Book.
Turley was able to post bond and his next court appearance to formally hear his charges is on Wednesday.
