Women's Bean Project Part Of Colorado's War On Poverty

DENVER (AP) - Women's Bean Project, a Denver organization with a national reach, is working to address the issues behind statistics like the latest figures showing Colorado is making progress against child poverty, but that the state's economic recovery isn't reaching everyone.

According to a report released this week by the Colorado Children's Campaign, a nonprofit, independent advocacy group, child poverty declined in 2013 for the first time since 2008.

But the report also showed black and Hispanic children were more than three times as likely to live in poverty than white children, and that urban children were more than twice as likely as children in rural areas to live in neighborhoods with high crime and violence, substandard schools and housing, and without models to give them hope of a better future.
