Woman's Body Found In Summit County A Mystery: 'Not Missing From Here'

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - An autopsy will be conducted on Wednesday on the body of a woman who was found along Interstate 70 over weekend in hopes of finding out how she died and clues that may lead to her killer.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office says a female's body was found along I-70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday by a Colorado Department of Transportation worker.

Relatives with missing family members have been calling the Summit County sheriff in hopes of finding some answers.

Although there aren't many clues about the body found, investigators do not believe the woman's death happened near where she was found.

"It certainly appears that it occurred somewhere else, the that victim was essentially dumped in our jurisdiction," said Summit County Undersheriff Derek Woodman.

They believe the victim was likely killed within the last month but investigators won't say how she died.

"We have not confirmed any identity at this point," siad Woodman. "We are following up on a variety of tips and leads and talking to people who have missing people. And clearly we don't in Summit County have anybody that's unaccounted for, and so we're pretty confident that the victim did not originate in Summit County."

Woodman hopes once they discover who the victim is, then they can start working on finding her killer.

"We will have dental records, finger prints, DNA, all the methods to come up with an ID," said Woodman.

Woodman said his office is working with law enforcement from throughout the state and comparing notes on missing persons cases as part of the investigation.
