Woman Who Ambushed Husband With Knife Gets 15 Years In Stabbing

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman found guilty of stabbing her common-law husband to death in their Broomfield home was sentenced on Tuesday.

According to Sue Lindsay with the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office, Carmen Bermudez, 34, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing 45-year-old Nerio Pinales last August 11.

Pinales was stabbed seven times after he returned to their home from working his second job at about 3 a.m., according to Lindsay.

"Deputy District Attorney Courtney Thiemann said Bermudez was hiding in a dark room when she ambushed Pinales, attacking him with a knife, puncturing his liver and gall bladder," Lindsay said. "Pinales left a trail of blood as he fled to a neighbor's home where he called 911, telling police he had been assaulted by his wife."

The couple had three children, then ages 13, 11 and 8 who were inside the home with the stabbing occurred.
