Woman Escapes Burning Home In Early Morning Fire
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- A woman and her two dogs escaped from their burning home in Aurora in an early morning house fire.
The fire broke out before dawn at a home located at 15178 East Nassau Avenue.
Fire crews rushed to the home about 5 a.m. Firefighters were able to get the blaze fully contained within 30 minutes.
The fire caused about $200,000 worth of damage to the home.
Neighbors said it was a terrifying wake up call. Those living near the burning home were forced to evacuate while firefighters battled that blaze.
"I saw the lights reflected in my house and I got up and looked out and I could see a lot of smoke and the flames were shooting out of the back of the house," said neighbor Charlie Johnson.
"I just woke up to pounding on my door thinking, 'What the heck's going on?' and there was a policeman saying, 'Get out! Get out! Get out!' and I said, 'Hang on one sec, I've got to grab the dog.' So here we are and I didn't know how it was going to be but there were big flames coming out the back end of the other house," said neighbor Mary Jo Fay. "There were five fire engines here and they seemed to get it out pretty quickly."
Neighbors said the woman's husband recently passed away.
Investigators said it could take a couple of days to determine what started that fire.
