Woman Demands Bottled Water After Chemicals Detected In Water
SECURITY, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman living in the town of Security has started a petition to demand free bottled water.
Kathy White says her community deserves it after man-made chemicals were detected in all 25 groundwater wells.
Twice a week, White and her neighbors fill up four huge jugs with clean water. It's a ritual they've been doing for about a month.
"I love having my family over, I love cooking for everybody and now all I think is that for the last God knows how many years I've been poisoning people," said White.
The chemicals in the water appear to come from a variety of products including firefighting foam.
Some wonder if the chemicals came from firefighting training at Peterson Air Force Base.
The Colorado Department of Health and Environment confirmed that Peterson is conducting it's own assessment and looking into chemical levels.
