Wolf Creek Ski Area Owner Sentenced Over Permitting Violation

DENVER (AP) - Wolf Creek Ski Area owner Davey Pitcher has been sentenced to probation and community service and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to conducting search and rescue training on public land without a permit.

The Forest Service filed misdemeanor charges against Pitcher after the March 4 death of Wolf Creek ski patroller Colin Sutton.

Sutton died March 4 in an avalanche while conducting snow-safety research 16 miles southeast of the ski area.
