Bull Elk Gets Trapped In Barbed-Wire Fence

CASTLE PINES, Colo. (CBS4) – A wildlife officer with the help of Douglas County sheriff's deputies worked to help free a bull elk that got entangled in a barbed-wire fence in Castle Pines on Saturday.

The elk got tangled in the fence near Elk Ridge Park at Legae Road and Castle Pines Parkway. Officials had to tranquilize the animal in order to cut and pry the barbed wire from its antlers.

"When we left he had awakened and stood post-tranquilizer. He hid himself in a bush and Wildlife Officer Chrystal Chick thought it would take him awhile to recover his strength," witness Laura Drobish said.

Drobish said according to the wildlife officer, the 6-point bull elk was about 400 pounds with a 6-to-7 foot-long rack.
