WELD COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A wildfire in southwestern Weld County destroyed two structures and two cars on Monday afternoon.

The 30-acre fire burned near Highway 52 north of Erie and south of Longmont. Mountain View Fire officials said high winds fueled the fire, and it spread in exceptionally dry conditions. It has been more than a month since there has been measurable precipitation in the Denver metro area.

Copter4 video captured at 2 p.m. showed the fire burning close to several homes. One home actually briefly caught fire but firefighters worked quickly to try to save it with hoses.

"They turned their pump on, they got their hoses out and they were spraying along here," resident Linnaea Kimble said, referring to the firefighters who saved the home.

A structure next to it was destroyed by the flames, and two cars parked outside also were also destroyed in what looked like an inferno from Copter4.

The fire was brought under control by the end of the day Monday. The fire was started by somebody burning trash on their property.

There were no injuries reported, but some horses and cows had to be evacuated.

Kimble had arrived home from grocery shopping when she spotted the fire near her home and jumped into action.

"My heart was just pounding," she said.

She filled buckets while neighbors grabbed hoses and prepared to fight the fire themselves.

"It's amazing what happens to you when you are in danger, because then I was ready. I was ready to fight, whatever I had to do," Kimble said.
