Wildfire Breaks Out In Southern Colorado, Prompts Air Quality Warning

(CBS4) - Hot temperatures and high winds quickly whipped up a wildfire in southeast Colorado on Wednesday.

It was burning in the afternoon near Kim in Las Animas County, which is about 60 miles east of Trinidad, and it put up a large column of smoke.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment issued an air quality warning overnight.

There was word on Thursday at midday on how the fire started or how large it has grown.

According to the CBS4 weather team, all of Las Aniams County is under a Red Flag Warning for continued high fire danger on Friday from 1 p.m. through 9 p.m. Friday. Another Red Flag Warning is expected on Saturday as the area stays dry, warm, and windy at times.

A small chance for rain will arrive in southeast Colorado on Sunday with better chances Sunday night into Memorial Day on Monday.
