Wildfire Near Canon City Contained

CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) — Firefighters say they've done all they can do to contain the wildfire that burned about 500 acres in a rugged canyon near Canon City.

Only about 65 percent of the area around the Eightmile Fire is accessible and crews have built containment lines all along those portions.

A new fire started a mile away on Tuesday. Crews have built lines all around that blaze, the Phantom Fire. It's not clear how it started.

Rocky Mountain National Park officials say a 1-acre fire in the Fern Lake area has been contained. The cause is under investigation.
