Equine Influenza Blamed For Deaths Of 95 Formerly Wild Horses

CAÑON CITY, Colo. (CBS4) – Equine influenza is the disease that's killing formerly wild horses at the Cañon City Wild Horse and Burro Facility. According to the Bureau of Land Management, 95 horses have died in less than a week.

Up to 20% of the other 2,000 horses in quarantine are also showing symptoms.

BLM said they have also identified equine herpes which they believe is making the illness worse. BLM also clarified that equine influenza is not related to Avian influenza.
