Wife Of Cyclist Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver Wants 3 Sons To Remember

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Support from cyclists, friends, and family members has been pouring in from around the country as they remember 35-year-old software engineer Bill Davis, the man they say was taken too soon.

Brianne Davis was supposed to spend the day celebrating her 12-year anniversary with her husband Bill, but instead woke up to tell her three sons the unthinkable.

"I just told them there was a really bad accident when daddy was riding yesterday, and he got hit, and there were people there and they tried to save him," Brianne said. "He's in heaven now."

Now Brianne says she's left to wonder what happens next.

"Every time the door opens I expect him to just walk back in," she said.

Bill Davis was two miles from his Boulder home Saturday afternoon when an alleged drunk driver swerved into the bike lane at 30th Street and Jay Road, hitting and killing the father of three.

The driver, 24-year-old Callie Kuhasz, was arrested less than four miles away after fleeing the scene. She was later charged with vehicular homicide, hit-and-run death, and driving under the influence.

Records show Kuhasz was on probation for a DWAI in Boulder, and was also arrested in Texas for a DUI in 2013.

"I don't hate her for what she did, she has to live with this for the rest of her life," Brianne said. "I can't imagine what that's going to be like for her."

While Brianne says she isn't resentful toward the driver who killed her husband, her first priority is making sure her sons remember their father's love.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Davis family.
