Westminster Police Arrest Suspect After SWAT Standoff

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Westminster called in SWAT teams to negotiate with a barricaded suspect on Wednesday night.

Officers rushed to the 5700 block of 92nd Avenue in Westminster about 6 p.m. Wednesday to contact a suspect in a felony menacing case that occurred last week.

When they arrived the saw the suspect, later identified as Mark Joseph Krieger, sitting on the front lawn of the home. When he saw police, he got up and went inside the home.

Despite repeated attempts to contact him, officers called in the SWAT team due to prior history. Two people inside the home were able to leave and told officers Krieger was inside and had possibly barricaded himself.

Negotiators attempted contact with Krieger, 34, and he was taken into custody just before midnight.

During the incident a CodeRed was sent out to nearby residences in the neighborhood and six units were evacuated. A second CodeRed was sent out informing residents the situation had been resolved.

Krieger was arrested on several charges including resisting arrest, obstruction, failure to leave a premise and felony menacing.
