Westminster Firefighters Make Sick Toddler Firefighter For A Day

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - There was a special honor for an amazing little boy on Sunday.

Ty Peterson turned 3 years old on Sunday. In honor of the event, Westminster firefighters made him a "firefighter for a day."

Ty's kidneys are failing and he's waiting for a kidney transplant. He loves firefighters and fire trucks. Fire crews showed up in force for his birthday party.

Ty's father says when the fire crews arrived, the family fought back tears.

"He's always loved fire trucks. We always have to go to the Westminster Fire Department open houses to ride on their fire trucks," said Alex Petersen, Ty's father.

Ty receives dialysis every day for his failing kidneys. His family is hoping a kidney transplant will change his life.
