Westbound Lanes Of U.S. 6 Closed Tuesday For Pedestrian Bridge Work

DENVER (CBS4)- The westbound lanes of U.S. 6 will be closed overnight on Tuesday as crews continue work on the pedestrian bridge that will connect Barnum North and South Parks.

Crews with the Colorado Department of Transportation will finish pouring the bridge deck on the pedestrian bridge overnight. In order to complete the work crews will close westbound lanes of U.S. 6 at Federal Boulevard at 10 p.m. Tuesday and reopen the lanes by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

In addition to the bridge work, crews will also close 5th Avenue from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving operations.

Additional Information from CDOT:

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

  • Westbound US 6 traffic will exit at Federal Boulevard, then go south to Alameda Avenue or north to Colfax Avenue, then go west to Sheridan Boulevard and use the Sheridan Boulevard on-ramp to westbound US 6.
  • 5th Avenue traffic can use 2nd Avenue or 7th Avenue to get from Federal Boulevard to Bryant Street, or from Bryant Street to Federal Boulevard.
  • Regional traffic should consider alternate routes around the closure, including I-70, US 285 and C-470.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for fall 2015.
