Westbound Lanes Of I-70 Reopen After Multiple Crashes Near Silverthorne

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 reopened about 8:30 p.m. after being closed for hours at the Eisenhower Tunnel on Friday evening. The Colorado State Patrol said people going too fast down the hill to Silverthorne, resulting in multiple crashes blocking all westbound lanes of I-70.

All westbound traffic was being diverted over Loveland Pass to Keystone during the I-70 closure. As of 8:40 p.m. Friday, all lanes of I-70 had reopened but Loveland Pass was closed due to multiple crashes. CDOT warned drivers of long delays due to backups in the area.

Passenger vehicles must have 4WD/AWD or adequate snow tires. CMVs must be chained up.

At one point in the evening, the Colorado State Patrol urged drivers to avoid heading into the mountains.
