West Metro Firefighters Travel To Kansas To Fight Wildfire

DENVER (CBS4)- Firefighters from West Metro Fire Rescue traveled to Kansas to help battle the largest wildfire in that state's history.

So far the fire has burned more than 620 square miles.

The fire started Tuesday in Oklahoma and spread into Kansas. One rancher has lost more than 7,000 acres.

"It's heartbreaking to watch something that you've put so many hours into, so much of your time, your blood and your sweat and your love into it, it's hard to watch it burn in front of you and be completely and totally powerless to do anything to stop it," said rancher Brian Alexander.

The part of the fire burning in Oklahoma is 60 percent contained compared to just 15 percent containment in Kansas.
