Wedding Band Mystery At Vail Grows After No One Claims Ring

VAIL, Colo. (CBS4)- The mystery surrounding the engraved wedding band found underneath the chairlift on Vail Mountain continues to grow after no one claimed the ring.

The 14 Karat gold ring has a special inscription, "All my love, Sue" but there's also a date on the ring. Vail is keeping that information secret so that they'll know when the rightful owner comes forward.

"One of our lift maintenance employees was up on the mountain under the Sourdough Express Lift the other day and just doing normal maintenance things and he happened to find the ring while he was walking around," said Vail Ski Resort spokeswoman Liz Biebl.

He was walking around at the top of the mountain on the front side of Vail right under the lift.

"The employee who found this ring decided to turn it in to security. He did the right thing which was great. Security then thought, 'This is probably something valuable to someone and how can we get the word out about it,'" said Beibl.

Through Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, the story about the ring mystery has gained attention worldwide.

"We've reached nearly a million people with this ring and part of the inscription. There's been a lot of commentary and a few false guesses for the date on the inside," said Biebl.

No one has come forward to claim the ring.

"Chances are the person was riding the lift and it fell off," said Biebl. "My guess is the owner of this ring lost it in the winter time because that lift doesn't run during the summer."

The ski resort is hoping they can find the owner.
