Water Main On Evans Avenue Repaired, But Road Still Closed

DENVER (CBS4) - A water main break that caused a sinkhole in the westbound lanes of Evans Avenue on Tuesday morning will keep the road closed until at least Thursday morning.

Crews with Denver Water rushed to the water main break on Evans at Galapago just before noon on Tuesday.

The water main break caused the westbound lanes of Evans to be closed between Galapago and Huron but that was later expanded to Santa Fe Drive and South Platte River Drive. Eastbound Evans Avenue has been reduced to one lane in the same area.

Crews have repaired the water main but the road still needs to be repaired.

Three businesses in the area were affected by the water main break. Some private residences were impacted by the break but Denver Water said water was restored late Tuesday night.

Denver Water told CBS4 the pipe dates back to 1949 so age is being considered in the break.

Officials say they hope to get the road reopened before the Thursday morning's rush hour.

Drivers are urged to take alternate routes like Santa Fe Drive north to Florida Avenue, Florida Avenue west to South Platte River Drive, and South Platte River Drive south to reconnect with Evans Avenue.
