Water Main Installed In 1890 Breaks In Downtown Denver

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Repairs were just getting started around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on a broken water main in downtown Denver.

The break happened at approximately 2:15 a.m. Monday at 15th and Champa streets. The 8-inch-diameter pipe was installed in 1890.

Champa has been down to a single lane between 15th and 16th streets.

Denver Water says there are so many utilities under the street it took some time to reach the actual break. Water is out at several buildings in the area.

Crews don't know how long it will take to get main and street both fixed.
