Water Main Break Forces Hwy 74 Closure In Evergreen

EVERGREEN, Colo. (CBS4) - Evergreen city officials worked on a large water main break which has forced them to close Highway 74 through downtown. They say it happened at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.

The highway has since reopened.

It happened about "30 yards" east of the Highway 74 and Highway 73 intersection.

Some homes were without water last night, but those reportedly have been restored. Several businesses spent most of Sunday without water, but officials say service was restored at around 5 p.m.

Officials say the water could be brown because of manganese in the pipes from the water from Yellow Zone Pump Station. City crews will work over the next week to clean the mud and debris downtown caused by the main break.
