Water Main Break At MLK Blvd. & Jasmine Causes Road Closures

DENVER (CBS4)- A water main break at MLK Boulevard and Jasmine on Friday afternoon has shut down some roads during repairs. The westbound lanes on MLK Jr. Blvd. are expected to remain closed into Saturday afternoon.

The break of the 12-inch diameter cast-iron main happened about 2:30 p.m. Friday. Denver Water crews were on scene making repairs.

No customers will be without water during the break repairs.

Denver Water believes the source of the break is likely contributing factors including the age of the pipe that was installed in 1953, pipe material, corrosiveness of the soil, water flow and temperature.

Westbound lanes of MLK were closed between Ivy and Kearney during repairs to the water main and cleanup.

Denver Water tweeted out an update on the water main break.

The road should reopen Saturday afternoon after repairs to the road are made. Alternate routes are advised for drivers during the evening commute.
