In a statement, Denver Zoo spokesman Sean Andersen-Vie said the sculptures are meant to "serve as a call to action, encouraging Zoo guests to recycle and prevent ocean pollution."

The grand opening for "Washed Ashore" is Saturday, September 24th at 8:30 a.m.
