Walmart Is Developing Self-Driving Shopping Carts
BENTONVILLE, Ark. (CBS4) - Walmart is working on self-driving shopping carts.
Sounds like something out of "Back to the Future," right? But CBS Boston reports that the retailer has filed a patent for carts with motors and video cameras.
The filed patent states that the configured circuit would "receive a shopping container request from a user interface device associated with the customer," meaning that customers would, apparently, hail the carts much like an Uber, possibly with a smartphone app.
Walmart has not yet announced when the self-driving carts may appear in stores.
