Video Shows First-Ever Escape From Denver Jail

DENVER (CBS4) - CBS4 has obtained new video of the first-ever escape from the Downtown Denver Detention Center.

Matthew Andrews pleaded guilty to helping Felix Trujillo get out of jail last spring in exchange for an alleged $500,000 and was sentenced last Friday to a six year jail term. Trujillo later surrendered to authorities and talked to CBS4 about the incident.

Trujillo told CBS4's Brian Maass that Andrews facilitated the jailbreak by providing the inmate with a Denver deputy's outfit. In the video Andrews can be seen rolling some trash into an elevator in the building. Trujillo follows him in the elevator.

The video also shows the two walking out of the jail and then walking out to the street and then down 14th Street in another shot.

In Trujillo's interview last year with Maass Trujillo described the first step in the escape as follows:

"So I go to my room he says tells me get dressed put the stuff on and walk out the door and the inmates are looking at me like 'what the hell is going on' and I'm just going with the flow you know."

Trujillo told CBS4 the deputy came up with the plot, believing Trujillo was rich and would pay him the money.

After the escape, Andrews allegedly drove Trujillo to an area north of Denver and dropped him off. Trujillo turned himself in to police three days later.
