DENVER (CBS4) - Hundreds of Colorado residents joined U.S. military veterans downtown on Saturday for the first Denver Veterans Day Festival to honor men and women who served in the armed forces.

Alongside a parade, the event featured vintage and modern military vehicles. It was presented by the Colorado Veterans Project.

For some veterans, the celebration is bittersweet.

"I think about the cost," Ron Konkel, who served in the Pacific theater in World War II, said. "So I really appreciate our freedom and people showing up today. It means a lot to me."
