Report: Denver Broncos to hire Vance Joseph as defensive coordinator
Slow and steady wins the race. That has got to be Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton's motto as he builds his staff at a leisurely pace.
There's a lot of focus right now on who could be leading the defense.
Vance Joseph, 50, is one of the candidates that has been brought in for a second interview. On Thursday, Peter Schrager from the NFL Network show Good Morning Football reported that a source informed them Joseph will in fact be hired as the new defensive coordinator. CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones later confirmed that Joseph will replace Ejiro Evero. (Evero was hired as the defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers.)
Joseph was the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals for the last four seasons, but the team hired a new head coach and decided to let Joseph go.
Vance Joseph is the second Broncos DC to have been fired by the organization as a head coach, then rehired as a coordinator. The other: the one and only @sonofbum

Phillips reached out to Joseph before his interview with Payton.
Feels like a good time to just say, I miss Wade! https://t.co/4kborH2zvS
Joseph becomes the second coach who was at one point a Denver Broncos head coach and was rehired as a coordinator. The first was Wade Phillips. Joseph served as Broncos head coach in the 2017 and 2018 seasons and the team had a 11-21 record during his tenure.
