Vail To Remain Open A Week Longer, Keystone Closes For Season
KEYSTONE, Colo. (CBS4) - Vail has extended its season by another week and will now close on April 17. On Sunday the resort held the annual pond skimming competition. But those wanting to ski at Keystone will have to wait until next year after the resort closed for the season on Sunday.
CBS4's Matt Kroschel caught up with some skiers and boarders getting in their final runs of the season at Keystone on Sunday. There was sunshine and the conditions were wonderful for the final day.
When the resort closed down at 4 p.m. it became a like a ghost town. The resort will be that way for a couple of months but people are already looking ahead to next season.
"It's beautiful, I wish it wasn't closing, the mountain is totally covered," a woman said.
"It's always a little bit bittersweet at this time but it was a great season, everyone enjoyed themselves," a Keystone spokesman said.
But as employees close down the resort for the winter they are looking forward to the summer.
"We have downhill mountain biking, scenic gondola rides, hiking," the spokesman said. "This was the snowiest season at Keystone in the last five years."
Some stores and restaurants in Keystone Village also will close down for the season.
Steamboat Springs also closed for the season on Sunday, and held a pond skimming competition.
