VA Offering A Look Inside Troubled Denver-Area Hospital

AURORA, Colo. (AP) — The Veterans Affairs Department is offering a look inside its unfinished hospital in Aurora as it struggles to persuade Congress to approve another $830 million to complete the facility.

The VA plans a media tour of the construction site on Saturday.

The hospital is now expected to cost $1.73 billion, nearly triple the $630 million the VA estimated as recently as last year.

The department blames problems in the planning process, extravagant design and other factors. An internal investigation is underway.

Work on the site continues, but the department says it needs more money soon.

The U.S. Senate Veterans Affairs Committee plans to hold a hearing in Aurora on Friday. The House Veterans Affairs Committee held its own hearing in Washington on Wednesday.
