VA Deputy Chief Addresses Veterans In Denver

DENVER (AP) - VA Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson is addressing a veterans convention in Denver days after his department said it wanted to fire two supervisors accused of manipulating health care data in Colorado and Wyoming.

Gibson will speak to the Military Order of the Purple Heart on Tuesday.

The Veterans Affairs Department said last week it planned to discipline six Colorado and Wyoming employees, including the two facing dismissal.

The six include a regional director who oversees health care in nine states and the director of the veterans hospital in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The VA didn't say if they were the ones who could be fired.

The firings would be the strongest discipline handed out since May in a nationwide scandal over falsifying records on how long veterans wait to get health care.
