Utah Couple Rescued From Lizard Head Wilderness

TELLURIDE, Colo. (AP) — A Moab, Utah couple who got lost while mushroom hunting in the Colorado backcountry are safe after being forced to spend the night in near freezing conditions.

Searchers found David and Meeche Bodner Wednesday morning in the Lizard Heads Wilderness near Telluride after being notified by relatives that they were lost.

They were spotted by helicopter about three hours into the search.

San Miguel Sheriff Bill Masters says the Bodners, both in their 60s, set out Tuesday to search for mushrooms, planning to hike out that evening. However, he says they got off the trail to hunt for mushrooms, which mushroom hunters usually do, and lost their way.

Mushroom hunting is popular in the area and this year mushrooms are plentiful because of the wet weather.
