User Beware: Backcountry Avalanches This Week Number 45 And Counting

By Chris Spears

DENVER (CBS4) - It's been a busy week for the good folks at the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

According to their website there have been 45 avalanches documented in Colorado since Sunday and with more wind and snow in the forecast that number is likely to rise.

The good news is that only 9 of these have been triggered by skiers.

But with the Christmas holiday upon us and more people heading into the high country, there is fear that number could rise.

Avalanche warnings continue for many of Colorado's mountains along and west of the Continental Divide where 1-3 feet of snow has fallen since Sunday.
