University Of Colorado Health To Build New Hospital In Longmont

LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - University of Colorado Health is to build a new hospital in Longmont, an announcement that surprised and pleased officials in the city north of Denver.

UCHealth says ground will be broken later this year. The new facility, with at least 50 beds and at a cost of at least $100 million, will be finished in late 2016 or early 2017.

Longmont spokesman Rigo Leal says Wednesday's UCHealth announcement was the first city officials had heard of the plans. He says they are looking forward to meeting soon with UCHealth to get more details. He adds the city welcomes the prospect of more jobs and more convenience for those seeking health care.

UCHealth says the project will mean some 500 construction jobs and later more than 200 new, permanent jobs.
