Udall Intensifies Jefferson County Campaign Effort

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (AP) — Democratic Sen. Mark Udall is headed to the perennial political battleground of Jefferson County to continue talking about abortion rights.

Udall planned a campaign event in Wheat Ridge Friday with the national president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Cecile Richards.

Also joining Udall are Rep. Ed Perlmutter and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The Democrats will be talking up a canvassing effort in the vote-rich suburban county. Jefferson has long been a major battleground in Colorado politics.

Udall is making women's reproductive rights a major plank of his campaign and repeatedly reminds voters that his Republican opponent Cory Gardner is anti-abortion.

The abortion focus is especially intense in Denver suburbs like Wheat Ridge. Women not registered with either party in the Denver suburbs usually decide statewide elections in Colorado.
