U.S. Secretary Of Education Visits Denver School After Improved Performance

DENVER (CBS4)- The U.S. Secretary of Education visited an elementary school in Denver after it showed significant improvement.

Arne Duncan visited McGlone Elementary School, along with Gov. John Hickenlooper and other Denver Public School officials on Thursday.

The school became a high-performing school after a turnaround initiative.

Duncan praised Hickenlooper and DPS Tom Boasberg for the success story.

"Turning around under-performing schools is probably the hardest, most controversial, but most important work that we as a nation are doing," said Duncan. "No one is doing this perfectly. We're learning every single day but these guys are getting a heck of a lot right."

Duncan also said he will share some of the ideas being implemented at McGlone with schools nationwide in hopes they will have similar success.
