U.S. Postal Service Unhappy About Stamp Price Reduction

DENVER (CBS4) - The price of a U.S. postage stamp has dropped for the first time in nearly a century.

The price dropped 2 cents and the U.S. Postal Service isn't happy about the decrease. They're set to lose nearly $2 billion.

The price of a stamp is actually set by a regulator, not the USPS.

The decrease occurred because of an expiring surcharge that had been put in place in January 2014 to help the USPS get back $4.6 billion in losses since the Great Recession.

The new 47-cent stamp cost went into effect on Sunday.
