U.S. 24 Near Waldo Canyon Burn Scar Reopened
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — U.S. Highway 24 near the site of the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire is back open after flash flooding.
Drivers spent hours stuck in their cars Wednesday night because of the closure. In nearby Manitou Springs, flood control measures built after the fire appear to have prevented serious damage.
In Colorado Springs, a handful of people had to be rescued from cars because of flooding.
Over 150 Boy Scouts had to evacuate their camp in the Spanish Peaks due to flooding for the second time in two weeks. The camp is below an area burned by a wildfire last year.
To the east, all the new rain is expected cause minor flooding along the Arkansas River in La Junta by Friday evening.
