Two Charged In Uber Driver Robbery

DENVER (CBS4)- Two people have been charged in connection with the robbery of an Uber driver that happened last December.

Wenston Williams has been charged with aggravated robbery, first-degree assault and three counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

A co-defendant, Kimberly Kovinchick, has been charged with aggravated robbery and first-degree assault.

The charges allege that on Dec. 31, 2014 Williams, 50, and Kovinchick, 32, met the victim, a 55-year-old man working as an Uber driver, near 33rd Avenue and Ivanhoe Street and then robbed him at knifepoint after driving to another location.

Kovinchick was identified as a suspect soon after the incident and was arrested earlier this year; she is scheduled to appear in Denver District Court for arraignment in October.

The investigation has continued and Williams was arrested earlier this week and remains in custody on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on September 28 to be formally advised of the charges.
