TSA: It's Best Not To Wrap Christmas Presents Before Flying

DENVER (CBS4) - The Transportation Security Administration is gearing up for a busy week of holiday travel and they have a few packing tips to help travelers get through security lines faster.

On Monday TSA agents showed off some of the items they've confiscated over the past year. There are the obvious items like loaded guns and martial arts weapons, but there were some unusual finds too, including a cane that hides a sword and a knife hidden in a pen.

While it's no surprise weapons aren't allowed in carry-ons, The TSA warns even Christmas presents can hold up the line. They're asking travelers wait to wrap them until arriving at their destination.

"Just in case we do have to bag check and see exactly what the item is, that will prevent us from having to spoil your work that you've already done with the wrapping of your gift," Harold McCurdy with the TSA said.

Denver International Airport has about 55,000 originating passengers on a normal day. That's expected to increase to about 65,000 during the holidays. Overall, all traffic will be well over double that on the busiest travels days.
