Commerce City police said the driver of the flatbed truck was seriously hurt when their truck smashed into the back of the CDOT truck and was heavily damaged.

The CDOT truck was moving slowly on the highway repairing potholes when the crash happened.

Investigators said the flatbed truck driver was at fault.

Paramedics checked the CDOT driver at the scene but that person wasn't taken to the hospital.

Emergency crews closed the westbound lanes of the highway and traffic was diverted off at the Vasquez Boulevard exit. That led to big backups through the morning commute in both directions.

This is the second accident involving a CDOT truck on that stretch of roadway in the past seven days.
