Trooper Recovering From Crash In Gilpin County

CENTRAL CITY, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado State Patrol trooper is recovering after his vehicle was rear-ended by an SUV in Gilpin County.

Patrol spokesman Nate Reid says the trooper, whose name has not been released, was investigating an accident on U.S. Highway 6 when his vehicle was struck at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Investigators say the SUV driver was trying to avoid a stopped vehicle when he went onto the shoulder and lost control.

The trooper suffered moderate injuries as he was exiting his vehicle just as it was hit by the SUV. He was taken to a hospital but has since been released.

The SUV driver was cited for careless driving and operating an unsafe or defective vehicle. He was not injured.
