Transitional Housing Plan Near Federal Center Moves Forward

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- A project that would provide housing to hundreds of homeless in Lakewood is moving forward.

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is working to take over land near the Federal Center.

The federal government recently approved their application for a plan to create transitional housing for between 200 and 250 people.

The plan could include trailers and large, insulated tents.

The project is only in the early planning stages with construction slated to begin next year at the earliest.

The long-term plan is to eventually provide up to 600 units.
